This Wine Castles tour takes you through the Chianti Rufina, one of the smallest wine sub-zones of Chianti which is famous for the longevity of its wines. Here Sangiovese finds all the mineral components to produce wines of great body and elegance.
Becoming passionate about Chianti is not the least bit difficult once you visit the Chianti Rufina area: its hilly landscape of vines, olive groves, stately cypress trees, woods, old farmhouses, and lordly castles is one of the most iconic and unspoilt places in Italy.
We will stop at the following two wineries to taste these 10 special wines:
Castello del Trebbio wines:
1) La Congiura IGT;
2) Chianti Rufina Riserva Docg;
3) Pazzesco Supertuscan Igt;
4) Dei Pazzi Supertuscan Igt;
5) Vinsanto Doc.
Tenuta di Bossi wines:
1) Violana - Rosé Igt;
2) Chianti Rufina Riserva Docg;
3) Mazzaferrata Supertuscan Igt;
4) Ser Amerigo Supertuscan Igt;
5) Cardinal de Retz Vinsanto Doc.
Anyone looking to explore a gentler, more intimate side of the Chianti area, where time seems to stand still and the region's noble past is still very much alive in every corner of the grand wine estates we want to show you. Besides, and not least, this day tour offers the opportunity to sample a varied portfolio of as many as 10 (yes, ten!) great wines.
The tour will take you to discover the Castello del Trebbio which became known for the infamous Pazzi Conspiracy against Lorenzo the Magnificent. Today the castle is the seat of one of the most prestigious wineries in the area. In the afternoon we will visit a renaissance villa, home of the Gondi Noble family who was bankers in Florence at the time of the Medici.
The Chianti Rufina Historic Cellars shared tour runs daily except Sunday, from March until December. At other times of the year, you may want to check our Winter Wine Tour in Chianti instead. Space is limited, so we suggest booking in advance. Minimum 2 participants are needed for the tour to be operated.
Vittorio was an amazing guide, taking my wife and I through an amazing countryside experience. The passion that he has for the Chianti and Super Tuscan wines of the region is apparent as he truly takes pride in teaching others of the unique history, soil, people, wine, and food of the region. We will definitely be returning to take another tour the next time our travels take us to Florence.
Our friends the Feil’s and us had a wonderful time on this wine tour with Vittorio. Our guide, Vittorio was highly educated and was a wealth of information about wine, his country and the history of the area. Our first stop was a wine tasting at a beautiful castle and we tried some fabulous wine. After the castle, we stopped off for a wonderful Italian lunch in the Tuscany countryside and then onto a Villa where we had another wonderful tasting. Highly recommend this trip! We love the fact that it was just the four of us and Vittorio was our personal guide.
My wife and I took a tour with Vittorio to the Chianti and Castles wine tour. We've taken multiple wine tours before, but this was by far the best experience we have had. Vittorio is very knowledgeable and puts a lot into each tour, he makes sure each winery is the best choice in the region. He has great relationships with the owners, which gives the best experience out there. Cannot praise this tour enough! We learned a lot and enjoyed each wine we tasted very memorable experience. The spot for lunch had great authentic Italian food.
